Desdemonia - Death Metal from Luxembourg Press Info > Biography

Founded in the mid 1990, the Luxembourg-based Metal Band DESDEMONIA has since then been working its way in the European metal scene. DESDEMONIA had its major concert draw at the end of the nineties and throughout the years 2000 with major bands like SOILWORK, GOREFEST, APOCALYPTICA, MAYHEM, OOMPH!, DISMEMBER, IN EXTREMO, DIE KRUPPS, HATESPHERE, DYING FETUS, KRISIUN, HADES, DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER, HATESPHERE, PUNGENT STENCH, THE LEGION, DERANGED, WATCHA, DESASTER, ENTHRONED, MORGANA LEFAY, just to name some of them. DESDEMONIA has been among the first bands in the Luxembourg metal scene to bring this kind of music to the people when live metal shows were virtually non-existent. Thus being the longest existing metal band in Luxembourg, the members of DESDEMONIA have always tried to keep their music fresh and inspiring and to share it with their public during intense shows. In early 1994 Marc DOSSER and Tom MICHELS met and because of their passion about Metal-Music they decided to start writing songs on their own. The line-up was completed one year later with Stefano DE ANGELIS (guitars and vocals) and Tom DOSSER (bass guitar). In this period of time the band developed its own sound by mixing the influences of each band member and had in 1996 the opportunity to present the DESDEMONIA sound for the first time to a rather huge audience (500) as a supporting act for another already well-known local band called PAGAN LORN. From this point on the DESDEMONIA-train had started and many other gigs followed. Because of many good reviews in the international metal-press the band became the first Luxembourgian band performing on international festivals. During the same time the four band-mates recorded a first semi-professional demo-tape “Infinity’s Regard” in their basement together with sound-engineer Alain GONIVA. Shortly after the release in early 1997 the tape had been sold over 300 times. In late 1997, DESDEMONIA was approached by the German Indielabel AUDIMANIA RECORDS to record an entire album. The first full-length album simply called “SAME” was recorded at AUDIMANIA Studios in Mettendorf, Germany and was mastered at ELECTRIC CITY Studios in Brussels, Belgium. It got released in 1998. Shortly afterwards, Stefano left the band and was replaced by Oli SCHEECK on the guitars. Tom DOSSER took over the vocals. At that time, a small Metal scene had begun to grow in Luxembourg. The Album helped DESDEMONIA to get opening slots for major bands, mostly in Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany. This draw more and more international attention on the band. During the writing process for the follow-up of SAME, DESDEMONIA got the opportunity to participate in a CD-project of RTL Radio Luxembourg, where a traditional song was to be arranged in DESDEMONIA style. Their song “Zu Arel op the Knippchen”, even thought sung in their Mother tong was not only played on RTL Radio but entered also the TOP 20, before Brittney Spears  and was played for a while on the biggest Belgian Radio station RADIO 21. The 2nd long-player “Paralyzed” was again recorded in Germany. This time, the recording and mastering was done in Karlsruhe at PROSECCO Studios (now: Maddening Studios). Released in 2001, DESDEMONIA tried to take its music a step further and to write songs that were more focussed and straight forward; Death-Metal with a Rock n’ roll feel. This album made its way around the globe and was mostly received in a positive way by the music press. It gave the band the opportunity for non-stop gigging in different parts of Europe, participation on samplers of major press magazines and distribution in many countries like Brazil, Russia, USA, Japan... From that time on, the band members were quite busy studying in different countries. However, because of their passion for their music, the band remained together and kept on playing live shows. After this difficult time for the band, but important period for the personalities of the band-members, DESDEMONIA decided in 2008 to start recording for a new album at the band-owned and -build FAUTELROCK Studios in Luxembourg. They now come back with this new release simply entitled ”Existence” containing 10 songs that have been written over the course of last few years. On this album, whilst staying true to their roots, the music of the band seems to have gotten a more progressive twist. The release of this long-awaited album has been celebrated during a memorable headlining-gig at the Rockhal (Esch/Belval, L) in front of 500 people where DESDEMONIA has been supported by ASSORTED NAILS, SCARRED and EX INFERIS. DESDEMONIA is now looking for every kind of collaboration. So don’t hesitate to ask.
